Mermaiding Competition

Join us for a fun Mermaiding Competition, showing South Africa what Mermaiding is all about!

Perform your own mermaiding routine including the 10 required movements (see below) to a song of your choice. Blow the judges away with your Mersona and creative expression.

It will be a fun day for all! Jumping castle and face paint to entertain the kids. Delicious foods will be sold on the day. Bring the whole family and enjoy the day with us!

Mermaiding Competition Rules

50% of your points come from your artistic expression.
50% technical figures – all 10 required movements must be included in your sequence.
Penalty deduction on technical figures.
This competition is open to all genders and ages.
All participants must vacate the pool after their performance.

10 required movements

Dolphin Kick front
Dolphin kick back
Side Swimming
Barrel Roll
Tornado
Double Forward Roll
Infinity
Mermaid Kiss
Double Back Roll
Zig Zag Swim – 2 waves at maximum amplitude

Judges will consider:

controlled speed
controlled buoyancy (same height entire length of pool)
fluidity of movement (full body movement, no knees)
artistic expression and mermaiding mannerisms

Mermaid Tail Requirements:

Mermaid Tails with sequences or that have bits and pieces that can break off in the pool will not be allowed to enter. You can use Mermaid tails and Monofins from Merschool if you are a regular student. No silicone tails, fabric mermaid tails only.

Make-up Requirements:

Waterproof make-up only as the water won’t be clear enough for the camera. Artistic expression points will be awarded considering your outfit, music, interaction with the crowd, Mersona name and outfit. Temporary tattoos and stamps will be allowed. Crowns are welcome as long as it doesn’t lose pieces in the pool.

Music

Music must be child friendly (no swearing or inappropriate lyrics) and must be approved before the competition. Music must be submitted no later than 3 days before the competition. The song and sequence must be at least 1 minute long and no more than 3 minutes long.

Prizes:

All participants will receive a medal. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded for each category. Winner of each category will receive R1 000.
